Self-propelled gun StuG III / 40 ausf. G

Recovery of remnants of the German self-propelled gun StuG III / 40 ausf. G near Kwiecewo-Świątki – on the basis of a permit granted by the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship Monument Conservator in Olsztyn. Among the excavated fragments the most noteworthy is twelve-cylinder engine of the Maybach HL 120 TRM type – unfortunately, as it turned out after disassembly, each part has cracks. Other parts include: floor fragment, tensioning wheel and numerous chassis and armor components. The peat environment caused the steel segments of the gun to remain without corrosion, and the parts of the surface were covered with paint. Still, all the found elements have traces of severe mechanical damage caused by detonation by the evacuating crew of the vehicle in 1945 and its fragmentation in the post-war period.
